OVERVIEW OF WEEKEND ACTIVITIES 

FOR BOTH FESTIVALS

A detailed schedule of your child's classes will be given to you when you arrive.

 

Friday

Suzuki Guitar Festival at CrossPoint Church

3:00 - Registration for Suzuki Guitar Festival begins

3-5:00 - Optional Arts and Crafts Elective

3-5:00 - Optional Additional Private Lessons - Optional       additional private instruction with visiting Suzuki faculty (additional fee - see link "Registration for the Boone Suzuki Guitar Workshop").  These additional lessons are Friday only, faculty will not have time for additional lessons Saturday or Sunday.

5:00 - Welcome/Group Play In for all students with Dave    Madsen

6PM - Pizza Dinner (additional fee - see the link "Registration for the Boone Suzuki Guitar Workshop")

6:35 - Faculty/Student Competitors Recital. This is an opportunity to hear our faculty perform, as well as for      those students who will be competing in the Appalachian Guitar Festival competition to practice performing one of their required pieces if they are interested in doing so.

8:00 - (optional) Pool time and parent socializing at the        Comfort Suites Boone hotel.  This is for those not        attending the concert at the Appalachian Guitar Festival.  The pool is open until 11PM.  Older students may want to attend the concert and swim afterwards).

Appalachian Guitar Festival at Hayes School of Music

Young children must be accompanied by an adult. 

8:00   Festival Opening Concert (additional fee) - Corde      Cantanti, featuring Hazel Ketchum, Douglas James, and Corinne Cassini; and the Page Brothers.  For information about the additional fee, see the link "Registration for the Appalachian Suzuki Guitar Festival”.


Saturday at the

Suzuki Guitar Festival at CrossPoint Church

Specific individual Saturday schedules will be given when students arrive at the Workshop.

     Each student at the workshop will recieve:

- One Saturday masterclass

- Two Saturday group classes.  One of these will be an end        of the day entire group performance opportunity which will include Suzuki repertoire as well our special music for this year: 

       1. We will have a performance of the Pachelbel’s Canon        (everyone is included - even the twinklers!)

       2.  We will have large group performance of the                           Telemann Concerto for 4 Violins (transcribed for                       the guitar) for anyone who is prepared.

     Ask your teacher about music for these performances.

- Two Saturday Electives: Guitar Building and Drum Circle (drums are provided at no charge, or bring your own)      

- Additional optional Arts and Crafts Elective (all day)

Opportunity to have your guitar repaired or just “ uned up" by our resident guitar maker Jason Pickard (fee involved - discuss this with Mr. Pickard)

- Opportunity buy or sell an "outgrown" guitar. Bring your   used instruments and we will display them for you at our registration desk.

- Opportunity to enjoy the activities at the Appalachian Guitar Festival, many of which are free.

     TEACHERS:  For all teachers visiting and observing:  Join us for a Saturday lunch session with the faculty for the purpose of exchanging ideas and catching up on our experiences and research into the art of teaching the guitar.  Visiting teachers must be enrolled as an observer in the workshop, $15 (fee includes lunch).  This fee is waived for teachers bringing students to the Workshop.  No need to pre-register for this.

 

Saturday (Optional) at the

Appalachian Guitar Festival at Hayes School of Music

Young children must be accompanied by an adult.

- Opportunity to participate in the Appalachian Guitar Festival Guitar Competition (additional fee)

- Opportunities to observe the Appalachian Guitar Festival   Guitar Competition (free, no Appalachian Guitar Festival registration required).  It is recommended that all Suzuki workshop participants attend this great opportunity to hear these wonderful students perform.  Children must be accompanied by an adult, no infants or toddlers please, absolute silence in the audience must be maintained. 

- Opportunities to attend all Appalachian Guitar Festival      master classes and workshops (free) - check the        individual schedule you will be given after you arrive for the weekend, there may be a few of the free activities that because of your Suzuki Guitar Workshop Schedule, may be difficult to get to.

- Opportunities to view and play guitars made by visiting     guitars makers showing their instruments at the Appalachian Guitar Festival (free)

Sunday (Optional) at the

Appalachian Guitar Festival at Hayes School of Music

Young children must be accompanied by an adult. 

11:00 Opportunity to participate in an optional final      performance for the entire Appalachian Guitar Festival   at the Hayes School of Music (free, registration at the Appalachian Guitar Festival is not necessary).  Lets show off our Pachelbel!  Students should wear their Workshop T-shirts to this event.

NEW LOCATION

     All Suzuki activities (master classes, group classes, and electives) take place at our new adjacent workshop locations: 

     1. CrossPoint Community Church, 132 Councill St., North Carolina 28607 (828) 264-5288, and 

     2. St Luke's Episcopal Church, 170 Councill St Boone, NC 28607 828-264-8943.  

     These two beautiful facilities, a few steps from each other, are located exactly one mile (about a 4 minute drive) from the Boone Hayes School of Music in the Broyhill Music center on the Appalachian State University campus where the Appalachian guitar festival will take place. All competitions and evening concerts take place at Hayes School of Music on the University campus.
